My sister is now flying home to Connecticut and life will return to normal. We had a blast. There were many lovely breakfasts (probably my favorite meal) at cute cafes, a day at Disneyland, an afternoon at the 3rd Street Promenade up in Santa Monica, two trips out to the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles, and a lot of laughs. Really, a lot. A few cocktails, too.
It felt eerily quiet going back to my sewing corner and I wasn't even very interested except that I wanted to finish this...
The chimney was an afterthought, so undoing a few stitches and then sewing it in by hand was a bit of a chore. The windows got a make-over and then I made the difficult decision not to add more details... because it's only a placemat, right? And sometimes less is more? My first pattern will still be slightly different from this... it was silly of me to think I'd get it completely right the first time around. Even when I plan a project with the finest little details, changes happen as I go along... as I see that things look differently in fabric than they did on paper, or in my mind.
As I said, I will be giving this one away. Tomorrow I will gather a few things to make the giveaway a bit more snappy, and it will absolutely begin tommorrow. Until then, I leave you with some beautiful shots I found on flickr... just some pretty things that caught my eye...
